Modern Languages & Music
Modern Languages
The Modern Languages department offer pupils the opportunity to study Spanish and/or French. These courses are skills based and developed through the contexts of society, learning, employability and culture.
Our learners will have opportunities to develop and extend a wide range of skills across four core components: talking, listening, reading and writing. It aims to enable learners to develop the ability to apply knowledge and show understanding of their chosen language. Pupils will also develop their skills in planning, research and applying language skills and understand how language works. As developing linguists, learners will also explore other cultures and enhance citizenship qualities.
The ability to communicate in another language is a highly desirable employability skill which we believe will enhance the future opportunities and experiences of our young people.

Music
Through studying National Qualifications in Music learners will develop their performing, listening, and composing skills across a range of musical contexts.
Whilst working towards performing on two instruments, young people will enhance their confidence and determination whilst identifying their own strengths and areas for improvement. Through creating their own music using instruments and technology, all learners will have the opportunity to work creatively and gain skills in developing their own musical ideas. Pupils will also deepen their knowledge and understanding of musical concepts, identifying them in musical extracts and working independently and collaboratively to become successful learners at all levels. Young people have continuous access to support materials through Microsoft Teams and other online resources.
All pupils are encouraged to make use of the great opportunities there are to be involved in the life of the school through our extra-curricular programme.
