Graphic Communication

Our National courses aim to develop learners’ knowledge of graphic design and CAD engineering by providing them with opportunities to be creative while using a range of different approaches to produce their work.

Learners will build their skills in various contexts such as design, sketching, 3D CAD modelling and ICT use. As well as practically building these skills, our young people will learn about how this relates to CAD/CAM engineering and manufacturing in industry, and what it takes to be an effective graphic designer.

Our National course aims to provide learners with experiences related to product design and equip them with the knowledge of how modern-day manufacturing is carried out.

Young people undertaking N5 level will work to enhance their creative and practical skills, by taking products from a concept stage on paper, through to a fully produced working product in the workshop.

Higher level learners will focus more heavily on the design and mass-manufacturing aspect of product design and will veer away from practical work in the workshop.

Practical Metalworking

Our National course is to equip young people with the practical skills needed to move on to apprenticeships and careers in fabrication, black-smithery, welding and/or other related fields of the manufacturing industry which involve working with metal.

Learners will utilise a range of specialist tools and machines to complete their work and will have the opportunity to carry out advanced metalworking processes such as MIG welding, lathe turning, forging and sheet metal fabrication. Prior experience of these skills is highly valued for young people looking to enter a career in this industry.

Practical Woodwork

This national course aims to equip young people with the practical skills and knowledge required to enter a career path in joinery, carpentry and/or construction. Learners will utilise a range of specialist tools and machines that are commonly used while working with wood. They will learn more advanced woodworking techniques and build models that will elevate the experience they have from S1-3. Hands-on skills are the main focus of this course and the majority of assessments are taken from practical activities in the workshop.
